Goodmans glcd17w2dvd.

You know those times when you go out of your way to help someone and it bites you on the arse, well it's happened to me today and I need help.
An old boy asked me to look at his TV and kindness of my heart I offered my time for free, its more like I was being clever idiot diagnosing the fault without even getting the back off.

The fault was TV was powering up but no backlights, my inital thoughts were inverter fault, I removed the back and I was right a couple of 220 25's had bulged out.
Replaced them, turned the TV on hey presto working, or so I thought.

The TV powers up on Scart function but the remote is inop, use the buttons on the TV to change the source to DVD the backlights go out and the remote starts working can eject and play. :41:

I know its a long shot but has anyone had any issues like this before. If so can you give us a pointer please

Cheers
Dave

Hi D.E.R,

Set is really old - Analogue with a mains lead PS - Nothing on my file for your problem apart from recycling.

Bit sad but - there it goes, could live again as a new Neon or Technika - Chris

DVD probably has a fault that trips the PSU.

IR is probably inoperative due to interference from backlights.  Once backlights go out, IR starts to work.

I have had backlight interference problems on 3 sets now, and one of them was backlights interfering with RC operation. (the others  were audio interference and DVB breakup caused by the backlights)

In all cases, the interference only occurred when the backlights were on a dim setting.  Switch the backlights to full intensity and there was no interference.

So have a good look through the menu's to find a backlight setting, and set it to full brightness. If there's no setting, have a look at the inverter circuit, and if there's a backlight brightness line from the main board, hard wire it for full brightness.
