LG 37LH7000
« on: January 15, 2012,10:34:43 »
Hi guys, another newbie with a problem, sorry! :sign0144:
My brother just gave me this tv with a fault with the picture, the tv switches on ok but the picture looks like the contrast is turned up full and everything is flaring also there appears to be very thin vertical lines on the screen.
The tv hasn't been bumped or damaged in any way, in fact it looks like new though 2 years old.
Thought it wise to ask here first before tearing the back off and fiddling about, pity its not a pc i'd have it in bits by now. :lamo:
I'll attach a couple of screen pics to help try and diagnose this fault.

Hi Jim, thanks for the advice but just to be sure you mean short pin 5 onto pin 6 of the eeprom chip?
Is this done in situ or do I need to desolder it first, sounds very similar to resetting the bios in a pc.
Hope you don't mind these questions cos i'm never 100% certain with tv's, pc's are so simple in comparison. :wink1:
I've managed to get the service manual for this tv and it looks like the eeprom is IC105, trying to cover all angles before i blow it up! :03:

unplug from supply. solder two longish wires onto pins 5 and 6 of the eeprom ( this is generally a 8 pin chip with a number beginning 24c.... ). Refit board . short together wires and turn on set although it wont actually turn on it'll kinda burp and revert to standby. disconnect power, remove wires , rebuild , turn on as normal.

Cheers m8, i'll give this a go tomorrow and post the result.
Had a good result today by fixing my Samsung tv, so i'll have to make sure i've got steady hands tomorrow.

BTW i tried to upload the service manual for the LG as a pdf file and was informed that its the wrong format for upload? :dubbio:

Hi Jim, tried the eeprom reset and its just the same  :03: any other ideas m8, could it be a faulty t-con board, i've read they can be responsible for this kind of thing, clutching at straws now!
I've seen a couple of mainboards for sale on the well known auction site but they're for the 42" model, same spec different size screen. :dubbio:

I've uploaded the service manual now, it needed to be zipped, tried as a rar file but the site wouldn't accept it.

Sorry to read about your health problems and hope you're on the mend now, numpties like me don't help. :c023:

I'm wondering if any of you techie guys live near me and could earn a few quid, i'm in the South Wales valleys. :sign0085:

yep I  think your prob on the right road thinking about the tcon best idea would be to put up a pic of the tcon and maybe me or one of the others will have one they can give you to try, remember to list the part number with  the pic cheers

Cheers Jim, the part number is P/N:6870C-0264B, this appears to be quite a common board, just slight component differences.
I'm also going to update the firmware to the latest and see if that does anything.

Found a photo on the net, my camera is not up to close shots.

Update: new firmware didn't make a difference, something else eliminated.

My mainboard number is eax55664502(1), the other number on the board is ebu60670002.

The pic is of a board on the net, hope the info is ok.

Sorry mate I was quite surprised to find I don't have that exact T Con heres a couple I did find which seem to be similar if you've time to do a wee bit research  maybe one of them might be cross compatible with the one you're after.

LG 6870C-0163A ver 1.0
LG 6870C-0195A
LG 6870C-0060F
LG 6870C-0150B ver 1.0

Failing that maybe one of the other guys may have the exact one your after cheers jim

Thanks for looking Jim but none of those are compatable, the one i need has 2 ribbon connections on top and 2 on the bottom.
I've been searching online and the only ones i've found so far are in the US, they want silly money for them.
I'll let you know when i find a reasonable one.

Again many thanks for looking, you're a star m8. :c017:

Time to update this thread, with good news!  :72:

Tried most things with this set but the fault remained, tried a t-con board and Jim's idea that the eeprom could be corrupt, shorted umpteen times but  no go, eventually changed the eeprom chip (a friend programmed it for me), still no good.
Came to the conclusion that the mainboard had a damaged gpu or cpu due to a power spike.

Managed to get a mainboard for a reasonable price and voila on came the set, still on bench test as I type this.

Thought it a good idea to update you with this to give hope to anyone else struggling with an awkward set, never give up & never surrender!!!!!  :brinda:
