LG M227WD

Hi all,
I have a friends tv which has gone faulty. It is a LG M227WD which has the same fault that was posted a couple of years ago by Markie76. Basically there is no life at all but the optical at the back which illuminates but at varying brightness. I have checked the psu and it does show the two 15v and 5v at the connector. There are no bulges from the caps or any burnt components. I don't have any other test equiptment apart from a multimeter. Is there anybody who can help at pointing me in the right direction or is there anything else that I can try?
Regards,
Jet

If you get one one of these that wont power up but the 12 and 5v lines are present from psu check the 1.2v reg (ic1100). this can be intermittent.we have had it a lot!

Thanks for the reply Tony I really appreciate your help but I just cannot find IC1100. I can find it in the service manual but this board is M22/237WDP-PZL LD93C. The service manual I have got is for the LD84G chassis. I was about to screw the tv back together and return it to my mate until I read your reply so if you can or anyone else can shed any more light I would be very grateful.
Cheers,
Jet

what are the letters after the model number, lg tend to fit different versions in their sets, thats definitely the right ic number on the version we do.

Yep Tony I have found it. There are 4 of these around that area. The IC is MP8706EN and I have checked voltage in (pin 1)which is 15v and output (2 and 3) after the coil is 12v. I don't have an oscilloscope so I cannot check for ripples so do I assume IC to be the culprit and if so, where would I be able to get one from?
Thanks Tony,
Jet

Has anyone got a service manual for this particular chassis (LD93C) ? If not then I will then return it to my mate as it seems to have a non common fault which seems a more difficult repair and therefore BER. There is no lights standby or anyting else apart from the optical which does vary in brightness. Thanks to all who have read my post and thanks Tony for the help.

HANG FIRE, i Will post the manual tomorrow, yes, we are working, it is a common issue this one, don't give up, dont go near any big multi storey buildings,or drink yourself into oblivion, it is not the answer.

The plot thickens.....I seem to have lost all output voltages from the various IC's (1102/04/05/07).They were there yesterday! Even the optical does not light up any more! There is still voltage going into them 5/15v but only mV coming out. Top of the list in the service manual is IC1102. Is it possible that IC1102 has completely broken down? Where is the best possible place to buy this IC? I have seen it listed on a popular auction site.

Just to let you all know I have finally repaired this tv!!!!! The fault was IC1102 which was showing correct output voltage but must have had a ripple on it ( I only have a multimeter). The voltage from other IC's according to the service manual was correct which threw me more. The voltage then went missing so I swapped this IC with another one (IC1104) exactly the same to confirm this chip was the culprit. I carefully used a hot air gun as it is soldered underneath to replace the IC and then the voltage returned (IC1102) and now the voltage on IC1104 was missing. So I got my mate to order the chip from a well known auction site and it took over a month for it to come (from China) and hey presto, the tv worked perfectly. It only cost a fiver so it was worth a gamble! I would like to thank Tony and Jordan for their assistance as without their help my mate would be dropping this tv down the council waste recycling! Sorry this is a bit long but I wanted it to be clear and hope it will help someone.
My mate was happy!

Jet
