Hi andy,Apart from samsung dont get many programing faults,or do i ?.Can you if you dont mind list some faults your encountering.Maybe might be a thought for mulja to ponder maybe.poss a little space on site for program errors ?As for samsungs great looking sets working, but can be hair pullers at times i find.
Ohm Supplies:
Of sets made in the last few years, some LG, Sony, Toshiba, Philips, Baird, cello, neon, vestel clones etc have eeprom problems, I wouldn't list them as most need a correct program. The tenancy here seems to be shorting out & hope the micro rewrites which in itself is unreliable & can cause other problems in the board.
Eeprom faults are hardly new, the 1st time I really became aware of a reoccurring problem was on a r3000 deck. You'd of had eeprom faults if you've seen any quantity of repairs, but as you stated, you've not recognized them as that.
Regards
Andy
g*****s:
Thanks for reply andy, most sets i see are 3,4 or 5 years old.So i have maybe not seen as many of your sort of faults.Got that to look forward to.But doing my best to try and keep up.
Keith:
Most faults could be attributed to corrupt eeprom data! The fault with the set that started this thread was ' Only comes on in standby' The customer had been told by someone that it was not repairable! The original owner must also have been told the same as the current owner bought it at a boot sale for a couple of quid.
Some other eeprom faults I have come across are, goes off after a few seconds, intermittently goes to stand by, no sound, no picture, sound only on some channels, poor picture Etc Apparently HDMI eeproms also cause many picture faults, but I have not come across this myself yet.
As Andy says, eeprom problems aren't new, some of my files go back to 1998, I probably have older ones on back up disks somewhere.
Faults that don't make sense could be eeprom data!
I think firmware / software / operating system / data corruption will get worse now "smart TV's' are here.

g*****s:
yes i agree, its only going to get worse.I find that most lcd faults can be curred by thinking logically.IE if no backlight, prob be inverter.ect.If you find yourself going round in circles, pulling your hair out,its prob a software prob.
