ONN ao4221 Anyone had this problem before

Hi

Just had a strange one, I think it is more down to the cheap wiring, I got this TV with No B/L's ripped the back off and the wiring from the PSu to Inverter was burnt to a crisp, and the block connector melted, luckily their is two block connectors on the psu so I removed one and replaced the burnt one and rewired it, the TV is sat playing away to itself but what causes this?

I have left the metal casing surround from the PSU to get some more cooling, but is there another fault that is creating a high draw from the inverter

The original fault was probably a result of dry joints burning up.

You must refit the PSU screen, it is there for a reason!

Why, to keep all those parts overheating and putting a 1 year lifespan on the repair/board....You should work for a manufacturer Keith

The metal cover is there to stop EMR from the power supply interfering with other equipment. If left off the TV will no longer comply with regulations. Professionals, like myself would not be allowed to return a set to a customer with the screen removed. If it's your own set you can leave it off but you may find you get interference or reduced reception with any WI-fi devices you have.
Years ago, had a customer that was a scrap dealer, he decide to remove all the excess metal in the back of his TV, I think it was a Grundig, but a big old beast. After he had done that, when the TV was on his RF controlled garage doors would open and close on their own! Luckily he still had the screening cans so they could be refitted and there was no more spooky doors!

As a side note, some cheap Chinese lap top chargers have no screening and cause problems when using the lap top when its plugged into the mains.

Ermmmm "You learn something new everyday" comes to mind, the little story did make me laugh, I would of been moaning that something is wrong with the garage doors and never given the tv a second thought...will take note that all things that come off must go back on
