hi chaps, just had this brought in, it's dell w3706mc dead, no lights just opened it up theres is  330v at the large filter cap  haven't done any more than that, any info would be fantastic  thanks for your time

I don't know that model... if it follows suit there should be a standby supply that supplies a +5V to the micro without this there would be no power at all except as you said the 350V across the smoothing block.

Usually this +5V supply is derived from it's own separate switch-mode supply which consumes very little power, when powered OFF leaving the standby LED illuminated, this is the norm in many sets.... but there could be variations.

Should this be the case, check the 5V smoothing capacitor, in many sets these are rated at about 10VDC, maybe anywhere between about 220uF and a 1000uF, this is the usual culprit, it may be bulged or have leaked... the transformer may be driven from a SMD chopper chip rather than a transistor.

afternoon fella's if you get one of these in dead, check main filter cap for voltage, you may find loads of dry joints which brought the set back to life, happy fixing

Hi,

Had one in today with FSP207-5F01 full of dries as you suggested.

Worst job was getting the back off as it's clipped to the front like modern sets.

Must admit, great picture and sound on ext inputs, but DVB now hopeless being an oldie - found some channels but wouldn't display any for some reason - Thanks - Chris.
