Sony KDL-40X2000 T-con issue
« on: October 17, 2015,08:45:40 »
Hi folks,

Got one in where T-con seems intermittent - Cleaned the LVDS plug, no difference. Could maybe be a board dry.

Problem is getting to it as seems entire set needs to be dismantled to remove. Wonder if there's a quick way without resorting to an angle grinder, time being money.

Thanks for thoughts - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Penny for your thoughts!

If its the model I'm envisioning, you need to remove the 2 vertical struts on the back of the panel (the ones used for wall brackets), the metal plate that traverses the top of the panel, then peel back the foil covering the top of the T-Con and remove the panel FFCs. The rest is obvious.

The rubber heatsink pads on these do ooze a liquid, but I've never found that cleaning this off has solved any T-con faults. Make sure you refit them...these T-cons generate some serious heat...have some muffins ready to go.

Hi Bruce,

Never before met a T-con with such a huge heat sink - Mind you, it came off easily as mounted on thermally conductive Grey plastic. It would seem as if the entire chassis needs removal to get to the T-con.

Will start with the verticals as you suggest, then remove as few screws as possible and try lever chassis up to get to the T-con - Check flexies to screen and possible dries.

Don't want to take it apart too much as need set to function, see how I'm doing - Thanks - Chris.

PS - Hold the Muffins for now.

Hi Bruce,

Later - In the eventuality not such a problem - Took out five screws, levered the chassis back, ripped off the screening tape covering the flexies to discover the one LHS had the securing tab up rather than down.

Unusual as doubt could have flipped up by itself, but there again, T-con hadn't been inspected B4.

Now for those Muffins with some choice cheese - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Well, well, well, as they say. That was a lucky break. You would have fun fixing it otherwise.

Save a muffin for me.....don't mind those blueberry ones.
