Sony KDL-37V4000 - Bright picture.
« on: October 28, 2015,10:34:26 »
Hi Folks,

Have one in where picture is bright with low contrast and a vague sort of fine patterning.

Suspect T-con - Any thoughts ? - Thanks, Chris.

Just had a look on line - Suspect it's an AS15-X problem well known on the 32" version, not yet mentioned on Fleabay for a 37" mend.

Hi Chris,

I suspect the erudite Turnip would be correct. Sony generally use AS15-U, but you can use AS15-F or AS15-G as a replacement.....oh, I see, you're looking for a dodgy T-Con from the Flea.

Whatever, T-Con it will be. Go for it.

Hi Bruce,

Hadn't even taken the back off at the time, so merely speculating.

China does a new T-con for about £20 post paid, so thought go for it, and a AS15-U for a couple of quid so can practice changing it, hopefully not damaging tracks.

Note that some chap said that all AS15 chips are exactly the same in essence, only print is changed to protect named folks hoping make the pound - Could be wrong - Thanks - Chris.

Yes all as15 chips are same in function.
Can sub in the cheapest one
About £1 i think from china.

Also get some kapton heat tape.

Tape around the chip
and use hot air to remove the chip will come off quite cleanly

The solder blob on the underside of the IC does make it stroppier to get off, but hot air or butane torch will shift it. Yes, take care lifting it off as the tracks are very fine.

Hi folks,

Thanks for help - Much appreciated, Esp the Kapton tape.

First time I had the problem was with a 'Sammy' so bought chip for 99p inc post, as a Quuq chum offered to replace it for a drink.

He did a really neat job but when re-fitted, LH side of the picture was missing, but no solarisation at all on the good bit.

He mentioned that £0.99 chips are 60% crap, which is a pain if you've just changed one for a drink.

Also suggested a supplier of known good chips for £1.50 inc post - Guess best option - Chris.

Ordered 10 off ebay from china not had a bad one yet.
gone through 5.

you plenty of flux
and read up about drag soldering,
and use solder braid to clean up at the end.

Yeh and watch out for those that have a solder pad underneath them
best to nudge them when heating up

I use hotair station at 370 C and air flow at lowest setting,
normally about 20 -45secs and the chip is off.
But always nudge it slightly..

Defo use the tape.
Once I was lazy and didnt use and ended up pushing the chip abit too much
and displaced a few components..

Hi Zom and well said,

Not sure about 'drag soldering' but will def use the tape now I've bought some.

What's plenty of flux - Maybe used before de-soldering, and if so, why ?

Glad your 99p chips did the job - Will stick to 1.50 a pop 'till quite sure, as margin is still pretty good.

Have a hot air station, previously only used to shrink sleeving - Thanks a lot - Chris.

this explains it well

With out flux its hard to get the solder to stick properly.
