Samsung LE40R88BD Clicking Relay

I am still trying to find EEPROM.  My TV (lnt4671fx​/xaa) has several chips look like that so very confusion.  What should be written on top of this chip?  So I don't short the wrong chip.

I had this issue on a friends TV that he picked up from the local tip for £25, I confidently told him to bring it over and I'd fix it.

I opened the TV up and the usual suspect caps had been changed, so I moved onto the eeprom reset, it took 20-25 attempts and then fired up.

I went through all the options without issue, but when I selected movie mode the image went a vivid green, like how I would imagine and acid trip would be - I tried the factory defaults - still the same.

I went into service mode and checked the config for the panel itself, there seemed to be lots of options, I noticed one of them was set to 26" - I changed this to the only 40" panel option, saved and restarted the TV - all working great now.


To the guy asking about the eeprom location: The eeprom is on the underside of the board (when viewed with the board bolted in) and it is in the lower corner on the outer side of the board

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but I'm having the same problem. I've replaced the capacitors but it still won't turn on. I was wondering if someone could explain to me what is "shorting" . I've read both threads very carefully but I don't know what you mean by shorting the two pins. Also, you talk about removing the "short" after turning the power on - is this dangerous? (don't want to get electrocuted)

what is "shorting"

Shorting is basically joining two points of a circuit together with a conductor (wire, solder etc). In this case its the two pins on the eeprom and the best way I found to do it in this case is by soldering a length of wire between the pins. This is quite tricky if you are not used to soldering. To remove the short you just cut the wire i.e. break the connection and this is at low voltage so won't be dangerous. However there will be much higher voltages present on the PSU and inverters whilst you have the back off the tv and are completing this procedure so be careful.

If someone doesnt know what 'shorting' means, do you really think that person should be trying to repair a tv, even if it's his own. FFS pay the money and get someone qualified to do it. The internet has produced a load of DIY idiots not just in electronics but most trades

A tad harsh I think....

I think the chap knows what shorting means, but was looking for some context or a procedure to follow.

The fact he's changed the caps and got the polarity right tells me he's not a complete 'DIY idiot' - we all have to learn from scratch don't we??

This post still has its use.  I googled this very problem yesterday morning and found this thread. 

My TV is 3 years and 2 months old.  Prompted by the poster who rang Samsung and got a free repair, I thought I'd try my luck.  This morning Samsung's engineer called and tried to fix the problem, he couldn't apparently because "whole board needs replacing".  As a result the Samsung Engineer has taken my TV away for repair - if they cannot repair because "that particular board might not be available" then I will get a new TV.

My point in posting is to let people know it is still worth a call to Samsung if you encounter this problem with your LE40R88BD.  Like I said....my set is over 3 years old and I'm getting a free repair or replacement.

hi people of the Tv repair world   done lots of these now caps +link on eprom nine out of ten work .
some times eprom still has data problems changed eprom part from CHS it works !!

this is a bit of a tip for all my telly basher colleagues out there, I have noticed if the eeprom is duff and you don’t have a new blank one in stock you can take one off another board (doesn’t mater which model) and the set automatically overwrites it, also if you fit the duff one to another board (samsung) it will often overwrite it and get it working again.

Sorry but when you can get an IC fron CHS for 67p, why would you want to put the duff one back in. Surely all TV repairers should keep 1 in stock. Last time I oredered I got 10 so that should keep me going for a while.

my point being IF you ran out of stock you could take a  good eeprom off a duff samsung pcb, doesn’t matter which model the pcb came out of as long as its the same eeprom and the set would automatically reprogram the eeprom. handy if the customers in a hurry.
as for putting a duff eeprom into another board, sometimes the eeproms aren’t duff just very badly corrupted, putting them into another samsung sometimes resets them and they work fine. WASTE NOT WANT NOT.
perhaps you could post the chs part code that gets the eeproms so cheap?
