Plasma repairs
« on: February 15, 2010,11:57:11 »
Hi Folks,

Had a set where pic was weak and snowy - thought tuner, but it was Z-SUS. Guess I'm not the only repair-person, well used to tube tellies and most find LCD fairly reasonable to predict, finding Plasma quite a different can of worms.

Wonder if anyone has produced a collection of insight and screen images giving helpful clues ?

Bet someone knows - Chris.

1st March 2010 - they're not saying, but hope and suspect that grotesque Plasma is of the distant past - Great - LED's for me with all those low voltage and bulgy cap Power supplies. Thought is - if you can see it, you and I might mend it and make a pound.

Keeping faith with that C02 biz, well, I'm mildly exuding, but cautious - Chris.

Hi folks,

After the last, and many duff Plasmas to mend delivered over one's dead person, was forced to read some service manuals - mainly from Quuq, of course - getting ideas, but apart from (33/25) caps and twiddling pots on LG Y-Sus to minimise sparklies, panel replacement seems the biz.

Hope local recycycling holds up, but suspect that some folks selling on Ebay might just be cornering the market on local - thrown into a big white van, and roughly checked later for broken bits.

Am there, daily - would make a real telly basher weep a bit.

Nevertheless 'Wii' (without wrist-strap) for next PM - Chris.

I think most of us are in the same boat,in that, how does a plasma work ?
Last week,I did a 42 sammy plasma with the usual d/j's on power panel, switched it on ,never looked at picture and ran on test. Went to put back on and noticed snowy pic,I forgot to FIT Z-SUS PLUG back
on.
Euras has a section with loads of picture faults, but lots without answers. This site is a must for self-
employed engineers.

John.

Hi John,

Sort of Chicken/Egg situation. A while back we made a pound from repairs which might be spent on a certain European site, but as we had those little blue books (Red for video) and P.T. we didn't need to.

Currently, No-one expects anyone to mend anything, and repaired gear is considered unfashionable - even CHAV's don't go for it.

Local recycling sites don't care to recycle locally - rather crunch it all up and send to China.

Ever the optomist - Yossarian.

Hi, Carbon,

Guess you're just not with it, UK wise. We too are concerned, as things politcal have now taken a curious turn.

Might be where Greeks don't require their marbles back again quite yet, possibly can't afford them.

Only a thought, as we are now poor too, but have certain chunks of Grecian rock, well, only for a good price  - Chris
