chris, i had a similar fault with philips 32pf7562 screen freezing on different menu screens and not responding to buttons or remote.
when you turn on from mains, tv turns on to a lit blank screen with sound. none of the controls work or adjust the set. the tv then turns off, then on again, this then continues but will sometimes stop switching on and off and just freeze .if i try to enter sdm from off, by shorting the pads on main board, the tv comes on but freezes in the sdm function and will then turn on and off again.
the NVM on this set cannot be reset manually without the compair adapter.
so i tried a software update, go to www.support.philips.com and download the firmware for this model, then remove the mains, put the remote into dvd mode, pressing the 'ok' button whilst plugging back in to the mains.
the tv then started to do a software update which took approx 3 mins. the tv then works perfectly ok, all functions. thought this might help anyone in similar situation.
